Long-Distance & Rural Medical Transportation

Transit Professionals specializes in the long rides. From the rural towns of Orleans, Niagara, and Erie Counties to the hospital in the next town or a specialist in Buffalo or Rochester, we cover the distances many providers won't. For eligible Medicaid members, the ride is free — near or far.

Long Rides, Near and Far

Rural Western New York to the next town, the county seat, or a city medical center — wherever your appointment is.

Rural Communities

We serve the rural towns of Orleans, Niagara, and Erie Counties — Albion, Medina, Holley, Newfane, Middleport, and beyond — where dependable medical transportation is hardest to find.

Town to Town

Rural town to the next town's hospital, dialysis center, or clinic — and across county lines. The everyday long routes that are simply too far for most providers to bother with.

City Medical Centers

Longer rides into Buffalo (Roswell Park, ECMC, Buffalo General) and Rochester (Strong Memorial / UR Medicine, Rochester General) for specialty and hospital care.

The Long Hauls Others Decline

Recurring dialysis, oncology, and specialty visits that mean real miles each way. We show up on time, every trip — standing orders set it up in advance.

Are Long Trips Covered?

Does Medicaid cover long-distance rides?

Yes. For eligible Medicaid members, transportation to your covered medical care is free — whether it's a few miles or across the region. Most long trips are booked exactly like any other ride through MAS: you just give them the full destination address.

Do I need special approval for a long trip?

Usually not. A long ride is still a normal Medicaid trip as long as it's to the care your community customarily uses. Only if your appointment is genuinely outside your local medical area might your referring (local) provider need to complete New York's Form 2020-U, explaining why the care isn't available closer to home. If that ever applies to your trip, we'll help you sort it out — see the FAQ for the details.

This is general information to help you plan, not a coverage guarantee. MAS and your provider make the final call.

How to Book a Long-Distance Ride

All Medicaid transportation in New York is arranged through MAS (Medical Answering Services). Ask for Transit Professionals by name so your ride is assigned to us.

  1. Call MAS at 1-866-932-7740 (or book at medanswering.com), at least 3 business days ahead.
  2. Give MAS the full destination address — wherever your appointment is, near or far.
  3. Ask for Transit Professionals as your transportation provider.
  4. For recurring trips (like dialysis), ask about a standing order so your rides are set up in advance.

Who we serve: ambulatory (walk-with-support) passengers with personal door-to-door assistance. We do not operate wheelchair-accessible vans or stretcher vehicles. See our FAQ for full booking details.
